Magdalena Abakanowicz (b. 1930), ranks among the most important women sculptors of the second half of the 20th century together with Louise Bourgeois, Eva Hesse and Rachel Whiteread. She enriched world art with the element of a monumental headless figure, which became a symbol for the expression of feelings experienced by humans of the 20th century. Her works can be found in public and private collections around the world. Her most important exhibition was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1999. The Olomouc exhibition will be the first ever retrospective exhibition of Magdalena Abakanowicz in the Czech Republic. It will present a selection from her work since the 1960s through a number of sculptural series. The basis of the exhibition will consist of gigantic and impersonal figures lent by the artist herself. The project is a part of the series of exhibitions of important European personalities, such as the exhibition of the founder of Op Art, Victor Vasarely (2007).
