trip planner Prague Castle: Stag Moat

Czech Pražský hrad - Jelení příkop

The Stag Moat is a natural ravine of the Brusnice stream. During the reign of Rudolph II, deer were bred in this area, hence the name. At one point, it was also home to bears, protectors of the castle. The Moat is a little oasis of peace and calm in the city centre, a chance how to escape the crowds there. Lovers of modern architecture will appreciate the 84meter long tunnel built in 2002 and designed by Josef Pleskot AP Atelier.

Please Note: The moat is being restored and visitors will see the ongoing works; they will be directed to move in one direction. The starting point will be the natural footpath which leads there from Klárov, the exit will be near U Brusnice St. The terrain is slightly demanding; impassable for prams or wheelchairs.
