Alena Kupčíková is well known in the Czech republic because of her collages made from pubic hair. Pro and Contra, is the name of the exhibition in Egon Schiele Art Centrum. She uses hand-made paper for her collages and her portraits, nudes
and details of women´s intimate body parts which aresurprising not only for their impudence but also for the lightness of the artistic expression. "When you want to
give a present to your beloved man, you will try to show him the most intimate view of your feminine soul. Moreover, that is the way the first "hairy" was created," says
Alena. The first piece, which started the whole series (from 2000), is also on display. Visitors can also see six graphic sheets, which involve collages that are not only
made out of human hair but also from animal fur.
The second part of her exhibition is dedicated to her activities supporting children with dyslexia. She has also dealt with this condition since childhood. Alena Kupčíková founded an organisation called Art and Science to support these children and she is also the author of interactive test
books for small children. These test books can indicate possible trouble with reading and writing at a really young age and help to prevent it.
