The lower Romanesque bridge tower on the left bank at the Lesser Town bridge head was originally a part of the fortifications below the castle and prevented access from the bridge. Its current form is the result of Renaissance modifications in 1591. Th higher Late Gothic bridge tower was built after 1464 upon the incentive of Jiří of Poděbrad, in place of an older Romanesque tower. A gate with castellation, from probably around the beginning of the 15th century, stands between both towers.
