It was established in the first half of the 13th century as a part of the Benedictine monastery, which was founded by Litold Znojemský and Oldřich Brněnský. It is built in the unique style of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. The monastery was significantly damaged during the occupation of the Uhersky troops of Matyáš Korvín. Real gems of the basilica are the lavishly ornate main entrance called the Paradise Gate, and the round windows in the apse
