The monastery was founded by Olomouc Prince Ota I Sličný and his wife Eufemia in 1077. The monastery first belonged to the Benedictines, but Bishop Jindřicj II Zdík later replaced them with the Premonstratensians. The monsatery was damaged numerous times over the years and was subsequently modified or expanded. In the 1990's the Baroque grounds underwent comprehensive reconstruction.
